Ok, i just re installed my OS on my laptop and everything was going great,
until i want to install sp2 then it says i have not activated windows. So i
go to do this, put in my product key, and then it says its not valid. I dont
know whats going on since I have made sure its genuine and its the disk that
came with the computer. Any ideas?

Hi Scorch,
Where did you bought your OS in the First place, and I think you did have
some update before SP2 for your Software am I right?,please shed more light

Ok, this is the orginal OS that came with the laptop. It is windows XP home
edition. Its the same computer that had this on, but a lot of things were
acting "buggy" so i re installed the OS. I think i might need to call and get
a new activation key. Is this the case?
But, when i go to system info, its still saying its windows sp1.
Hope for some help soon :)

Try looking at the key again as you might be making the same mistake I
frquently do - letter B mistaken for figure 8 and viice versa

One doesn't enter the Product Key for activation. The Product Key is
required much earlier, for installation of the OS. If you've gotten to
the point of activating, you're long past the point of needing to enter
the Product Key.

However, if you are trying to install a WinXP Service Pack and
getting the following:

The Product Key Used to Install Windows Is Invalid
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q326904

You need to purchase and a _legitimate_ retail or OEM full license
of WinXP Pro to perform a repair (a.k.a. in-place upgrade) installation,
using the new CDs and Product Keys.

How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade of Windows XP

You should also report whomever sold you this license to your local
law enforcement agencies; you've been defrauded.

Contact the computer manufacturer to determine why the Product Key they
provided is listed as invalid.
