Would like to boot from xp home edition recovery cd. Hitting F8 or F12 during
boot doesn't allow me to set up this option. Two years ago, someone when
fixing a problem with my monitor, took out my xp home and replaced it with xp
pro. Because my recovery cd is an older version than the xp pro, it won't
play without setting it to boot from the cd which i can't. If I can't
ultimitely boot from the recovery cd, would a new copy of xp home boot up
automatically? Thanks for any and all help

Most likely your bios isnt set to have the cd rom as the first boot device
... you will probably have to get into the bios settings .. depending on
computer ... its usually the delete key when the computer is first booting
(before the windows screen) ... but some computers use the F1 key or the F10
key ... I would try the Delete Key first tho..

once in the bios ... you will have to look through the items .. using the
arrow keys and the enter to enter a menu item .. and esc key to back out of
a menu selection .. somewhere you will see a boot order .. its usually a
preference as to how you set it .. I have my floppy as first boot device ..
then my cdrom .. then my hard drive ... i rarely use the floppy so i really
dont have to have it in that order .. all you have to worry about is that it
looks at the cdrom before it checks the hard drive for a boot sector

Hi renjco 53,

Procedure to Reinstall Windows XP!

If you want to save any files, make a backup of those files off the Hard
Drive and proceed.

0. - Turn off the printer.
1. - Go into Computer Bios and Set Defaults and Exit, if you know how.
Make sure the Boot Order is set to Boot to CD-Rom Drive First.
2. - Insert Windows XP CD into CD-Rom Drive.
3. - Reboot the computer.
4. - Welcome to Setup.
5. - Reinstall XP - Press Enter
6. - F8 - I Agree
7. - Esc: Don't Repair
8. - Select Partition to Install Windows XP on.
Use UP and DOWN ARROW Keys to Highlight Partition.
9. - Press Enter.
10. - Press C to Continue.
11. - Highlight the Action You Want To Take.
Type of Format you want to perform.
12. - I selected Format The Partition using the Fat File System.
13. - Then Press Enter to Continue
14. - Warning Message
15. - Press F
16. - To Continue To Format Partition with the FAT32 File System.
17. - Press Enter.
18. - Now it formats.
19. - After Formatting It Checks The Drive.
20. - Then Copies files to partition.
21. - Now it Reboots to Windows XP. Don't press a key to boot to CD.
22. - And now it installs Windows XP.
23. - You need to be here now.
24. - Starts at 39 Minutes to Complete.
25. - At 33 minutes, you need to set Time and Time Zone.
26. - And Enter The Product Key.
27. - At 29 minutes, you need to pick the Network.
28. - Now wait for Reboot and you are done.

Unfortunately hitting Delete, F1, F10 or assorted other keys does not allow
me access to the BIOS. Is hitting the right key while booting up the only way
to access the BIOS? I do appreciate the time you are taking to help me.
Thanks.

I appreciate your response. Unfortunately, I can't get into the BIOS. I have
hit various keys while booting up but they don't gain me access to the BIOS.
Is this the only way in- hitting the right key? Thanks.

Pretty much, yes. I've not heard of any other way.

In the extremely unlikely event that your PC's manual or the
motherboard manufacturer's web site doesn't contain the needed
information, try one or more of the following:

Yes. How to get into your BIOS depends, not on Windows, but on what
motherboard/BIOS you have. As a matter of fact, you have to access the BIOS
before Windows even starts to boot. One common way is to press the Del key
when you first power on, but that's not necessarily right for your computer.
Watch the screen carefully when you first boot; there's often a message
there telling you what to do. If not, check your system documentation or
check with your vendor.

Hi, I am sorry to take so long to get back to you but I knew trying various
key hits to get into the Bios would be my last shot at accessing the Bios. I
tried many key combinations, those recommended and some not. Do you know
whether, if I bought a new XP Home edition CD, it would be likely to install
itself without any adjustments to the current Bios? Again, I appreciate your
help.
