reinstall wiped my second hard drive

I was reinstalling Windows XP Home on my pc using my recovery disk. I went
through the installation process but when I got back to my desktop it
appeared that nothing had changed, and all the shortcuts were still there. I
went into my C drive where windows had been installed and all my programs
were also still there. However on checking my H drive which is a different
physical drive Windows had been installed here and all my files were gone.
Does anyone know why Windows would have installed on my H drive which was
just being used as a backup, and not on my C drive where windows originally
was, and still is. Don't know much about this but would it have something to
do with my Master and Slave settings.

That would depend on how the recovery process works with your recovery
disks. Contact the tech support for the computer for info on that. That's
not something set by Windows.
