with windows 98 when I had a problem that wouldn't go
away like I have now (windows explorer & at other times
Internet Explorer, just say they have to shut down
because of a problem and they do it frequently) I world
just reinstall over the previous install and everything
would be fine. Now I have a Dell Dimensions 4400 and my
windows xp is on a disk that won't reinstall or at least
I haven't been able to get it to. Is there a place I can
download Internet Explorer and reinstall it without it
telling me that I already have the newest version, or a
place to reinstall XP? I would like to do so. Maybe
there is a hidden file as there was with 95 that install
it again from the directory of windows. Help. I do no
want to and will not unless emergency status is reached,
wipe clean and start over. I hate that. Have hated it
every one of the five or six times I have done it in my
computer career.

How to Reinstall or Repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows
XP

First eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
