Reinstalling Internet Explorer 6 SP2

Since people don't seem to be able to answer the question of whether it is
possible or not to reinstall Internet Explorer 6 SP2 without reinstalling
Windows XP SP2 (they always seem to provide a link to a KB article that
doesn't apply to IE 6 SP2), I have a different question to ask.

[ http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;318378&Product=winxp
APPLIES TO
• Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 Service Pack 1
• Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 Service Pack 1
• Microsoft Outlook Express 6.0
]

This is my question: Why is it that no one can give a straightforward
answer to the question of whether it is possible to reinstall internet
explorer 6 SP2 without reinstalling windows xp sp2?

Is Microsoft TRYING to get people to use Firefox and other web browser
alternatives?

We are all volunteers and s a general rule don't respond of we don't know
the answer. My *guess* would be no, but I've never tried because it
wouldn't have occurred to me. I would have just gone ahead and reinstalled
WinXP SP2 after uninstalling it.

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=318378 is fairly clear to me:

<quote>
To reinstall or repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express, use the
appropiate method while you are logged on as an administrator.

Windows XP and Windows XP SP1: Reinstall or repair Windows XP

Windows XP SP2: Reinstall Windows XP SP2
</quote>

Officially, there is no 'IE6 SP2'; There is only WinXP SP2 and the updated
version of 'IE6 SP1' which installs with it.

possible to reinstall internet explorer 6 SP2
without reinstalling windows xp sp2?

Instead of soliciting comments on your self-prescribed solution
for your unstated problem why not describe your symptoms and
perhaps you would find something simpler than reinstalling IE?

Hint: XPsp2 provides a new version of the previous IE Repair.
