reinstall of ie6 with latest svc pks

I posted a message asking help with a yahoo problem. this seems to relate
I get hints that I need to remove/reinstall ie6 so far I've looked at the
control panel
and I don't see ie6 with tools listed, I do see ie6 svc pack1 repair/remove
listed
and what I've been reading says in order for this to be listed, I either
have to
remove a service pack, or do a clean install.
This started after a recent repair install, everything else seems to work fine
it's just various java script errors keep happening, I do have java script
installed
and default set on all zones of ie.
anybody have a different direction to go, an easier fix than a clean install?
The previous message dealt with an error on the page when I tried to press
the send mail button on yahoo mail page, I did discover mozilla works fine
with that same button, so it has to be within ie6 and java.
I guess I'm being lazy and just don't want to do a clean install, I'm afraid
I'll miss backing up some data when I format..

About three years ago I used the regedit described in this article to
reinstall IE. I know the article says for Windows XP, but I used it
successfully on Windows 2000. Seems like after setting "IsInstalled" to 0,
and after restart then IE/OE reverted back to IE5.0 Then you can just run
the setup again for IE6

I was able to run the install program within ie6 folders, but my problem
still exists
I'm not certain that a simple reversion to ie5 will resolve the issue, I
know I've been dreading a clean install, but I think after 4-5 repair
installs over time, I really need to backup my data, and do a format clean
install, thanks for the tip, I will keep it in my library of handy tips.
