Reinstall IE 6

R

Robert McEvoy

I currently have IE6 installed when I bring up Yahoo I have no Icon for IE6
only icon I have is for Yahoo
Can I delete the Yahoo icon and reinstall ie6 without losing my favorites
I went to add and delete windows components and windows explore is there
with no file size
I have IE7 there with a file size ,but I do not want to install IE7
In the past I had and Icon for IE6.
or is there a way to open separate windows for IE6 , now if I open a new
window is uses the one that is currently opened
Any suggestions
Bob

It is in the Toolbar, when I click on tools under Yahoo , help it tells me
that I have IE6 , I had uninstalled I.E. from the Add/remove function
but when I go to the Add , Delete windows components it shows 0 file size
for windows explore
IE6 came from the original XP package, I just added Yahoo as my home page
I just did a search for ieexplore.exe and did not find it.
Again was just added to explorer as a home page.
Hope that helps

So that explain that you are back to the default IE6 after uninstalling IE7,
that is good.

Did the check mark been checked in the check Box beside it like this:
[/] Internet Explorer

It should be: iexplorer.exe
Try it !
Again was just added to explorer as a home page.

Nothing wrong with that.

Check the box and you will get the size in MBs and click Ok and close then
try again and see.
But for sure you have IE6 installed, you can't be without and you will n't
be able to access the net unless you have another browser installed?, which
you said no!.

Hi Bob,
Well if you done which on the link I gave or the Link GORDON gave earlier
either by downloading the ZIP file and unzip it, you will have your Branding
IE6 ?browser back again.
For somehow your browser been changed and for this you can't see the IE Brand.
One of Two download the Zip file to repair it for you or you can do it by
going to the registry.
Also try the command in Ramesh site by clicking Start >> Run >> type in:
rundll32 iedkcs32.dll,BrandCleanInstallStubs
or rundll32 iedkcs32.dll,Clear Click [OK] and Reboot your machine.
Or By Click Start >> Run and type in:
regedit click [OK].
On the Registry Editor Locate these Keys and do the mentioned changes in the
KB Like this:
To Remove a Custom Internet Explorer Window Title
Using Registry Editor, delete the following value in the registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\Window Title
When you delete this value, "Microsoft Internet Explorer" becomes the
default window title

To restore the animated Internet Explorer logo, delete the BrandBitmap and
SmBrandBitmap string values under the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar
After you make this change, quit Registry Editor and restart your computer.
Or tell us What bit you can't get arround it.

Hi Bob,
Well if you done which on the link I gave or the Link GORDON gave earlier
either by downloading the ZIP file and unzip it, you will have your
Branding
IE6 ?browser back again.
For somehow your browser been changed and for this you can't see the IE
Brand.
On the Registry Editor Locate these Keys and do the mentioned changes in
the
KB Like this:
To Remove a Custom Internet Explorer Window Title
Using Registry Editor, delete the following value in the registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\Window Title
When you delete this value, "Microsoft Internet Explorer" becomes the
default window title

To restore the animated Internet Explorer logo, delete the BrandBitmap and
SmBrandBitmap string values under the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar
After you make this change, quit Registry Editor and restart your
computer.
Or tell us What bit you can't get arround it.
HTH.

Nass , I am looking for IE6 only icon , I do not want it to be
associated
with Yahoo , what happens if I delete the directory for Internet
explore
and download it from a different Brower
Bob
Glad you found the culprit and thanks for letting me know.
Good luck.

:

Nass , I think I found something , went to the Application
Data/Microsoft/Internet Explorer/Quick Launch
clicked on quick launch , right clicked on the name , create short
cut
The name that came up on the short cut was Internet shortcut Top
news/current events
from Yahoo
Bob
Check the box and you will get the size in MBs and click Ok and
close
then
try again and see.
But for sure you have IE6 installed, you can't be without and you
will
n't
be able to access the net unless you have another browser
installed?,
which
you said no!.
HTH.

:

Nass , Tried the search again with the correct spelling , same
results
0
The Add/Remove component window had Internet Explorer 0 mb
For MSN Explorer 20mb
as for check marks there were no check marks
Bob
My Reply in line:

:

It is in the Toolbar, when I click on tools under Yahoo ,
help
it
tells
me
that I have IE6 ,

So that explain that you are back to the default IE6 after
uninstalling
IE7,
that is good.

I had uninstalled I.E. from the Add/remove function
but when I go to the Add , Delete windows components it
shows 0
file
size
for windows explore

Did the check mark been checked in the check Box beside it
like
this:
[/] Internet Explorer

IE6 came from the original XP package, I just added Yahoo as
my
home
page
I just did a search for ieexplore.exe and did not find it.

It should be: iexplorer.exe
Try it !

Again was just added to explorer as a home page.

Nothing wrong with that.

Hope that helps
Bob

with no file size
I have IE7 there with a file size ,but I do not want to
install
IE7
In the past I had and Icon for IE6.

Any suggestions
Bob

Hi Bob,
Make this easy for us please!.
So how did you got Yahoo IE or is it the Toolbar or is it
you
installed
the
IE7 customized by Yahoo?.
If you didn't like IE7 and did you uninstall it from
Add/Remove
programs
or
what you done and how do you see it there?.
Did you Yahoo installed with another softwares came bundled
with?.
HTH.
Let us know.
