Reinstall network connections

Can anyone help I am having problems connecting to my
ISP Loads of 678 errors with the occasional718 & 721
thrown in. Even when I get connected the line drops quite
often.
The ISP help desk have basically washed their hands of it
saying it is a PC problem and I need to reinstall network
connections.
The problem is I am running XP Home with SP 2 istalled
but I cant find any knowledge base articles to tell me
how to do this, the only ones I can see are for 95 & 98
Can some kind soul point me in the right direction
please.

do you get a connection at least sometimes?

Sporadic problems are not very typical for software problems.
Your line or the ISP's network may simply be bad.

Do you know anybody in your vicinity who uses the same ISP and
type of connection? Can you try a different ISP?
