Reinstall IE6 on XPSP2

I have a computer that had a ton of spyware/adware on it, that took over my
IE. I have since unistalled and reinstalled IE from the Add/Remove
programs/windows components and that doesn't seem to do anything to fix the
issues. I've tried to reinstall but i get the error message Newer version
installed even after doing the registry fixes described on the Microsoft
sight and it still won't let me reinstall. Is there a way to force the
installation of IE6 so that it may run well again?

Thanks for any help you can give. If i have to i can use Firefox.
