registry will not edit or delete items

I am trying to delete items in the registry specifically McAfee data.

This was on the advice of McAfee because my software would not update and I
can not reinstall it becase it indicates and error on install.

I aslo tried suggestions in several different posts.

However I keep getting messages that I do not have permissions. I tried
changing the permissions but that doesn't work. I also signed on in safe
mode as the administrator but it still will not allow me to change
permissions or delete registry keys. It also apears that I have near
duplicate keys.

I tried io execute Multi -AV but because I do not have a virus program
running it does seem to want to operate.

What I am trying to do is remove items related to McAfee

In Safe Mode, logged on as Administrator, change the ownership of the
registry keys and then you will be able to delete them. You are not
doing something correctly.

When I go to an Item for example McAfee.com.MCVSQTcoll.1
I click on owner and the screen display "unable to display current owner"

The option is
Change owner to Administrator ( name of my computer\administrator
or Administrators ( name of my computer\administrators

I pick administrator and then click on "replace owner on subcontainers and
objects"
response is "Security Unable to set new owner on MCAfee.Com.MCVSQTColl.1"

What am I doing wrong.

Are you logged on as the built-in Administrator? Following these steps?

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/...proddocs/en-us/regedit_take_own.mspx?mfr=true

I'm also not sure where you're seeing "replace owner on subcontainers
and objects" and normally this would not be necessary to change
ownership and then delete a registry key, but I'm not on a Windows
machine right now.

You also mention that you tried to run Multi_AV; do you think your
computer is infected? Multi_AV does not need an installed antivirus to
run; it is a first-line antivirus tool meant to be used to clean up
your computer so that you can then install a full-featured av. If you
believe your computer is infected and for some reason you can't run
Multi_AV, try Sysclean:
