registry problem

I am having problems with the registry on my XP Home SP2 computer. I am
having problems installing Macromedia Flash 7.0. The installer says that the
program is installed, but it does not actually install. I was instructed to
remove some folders and registry keys to ensure that everything from Flash
player was completely out of the system before trying to install it again.
Here is the problem....There are two keys that say "error opening key" when I
click on them. Also, I cannot delete them because it says access is denied.
I have checked the permissions on these two keys, and the permissions lists
on both keys are completely empty. When I try to add users w/ permissions to
the keys, it again says access is denied. I rebooted into safe mode and
tried to delete the keys from every user account, including the admin
account, but no change. They keys in question are:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MacromediaFlashPaper.MacromediaFlashPaper
-and-
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\MacromediaFlashPaper.Macromedia.FlashPaper

Any ideas on how I can remove these keys? I am thinking that they are what
is preventing the install from working correctly, beings nothing can write to
them. Thanks.

Hi Jeff,

Try: Copy the below in Notepad and save with a .reg extension:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MacromediaFlashPaper.MacromediaFlashPaper]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\MacromediaFlashPaper.Macromedia.FlashPaper]

Had a similar problem with another program. Ran Registry Mechanic and that
helped me.

Hi Kelly,

I tried your suggestion, and I get an error saying that I can only import
..reg files. But that is what I am trying to import. I made a file with the
changes you suggested and gave it a .reg extension, but my PC apparently does
not like it......Any ideas?

Thanks
Jeff

Roger,

I just purchases Registry Mechanic, so I will update it and give it a shot.
Thanks.

Yes, learn how to manually update, remove and change the registry and do it
yourself. That is what I do. Have a great day!

: Tried the registry mechanic........no luck. Any other ideas?

Depends what else is going on, Jeff. Which policies do you have set, what
restrictions, what type of profile are you running?

Run attached.

Do you have "SpywareBlaster" installed?(Or a similar spyware tool?)
When You "Innocculate" with the "Active-X" option checked, I believe I
recall it somehow "quarantines" certain Registry Keys. Turn that off, or
uninstall it. Reboot.
(Reply, please.)

What do you mean by that statement? I use SpywareBlaster and it has not
given me any problems.
