registry problem:icon position on desktop

Hello everybody,
let's see if anyone could help with my problem.
My (old) pc is running with win xp-pro sp2.

A friend used these 2 software to clean up the system: dustbuster xp
(to clean unused files) and RegSeeker 1.52 to clean registry.
I don't know what happened, but after that all the icons on the desktop
are always on the left of the screen, and my settings in the taskbar
are always resetted at every start up.
(obviously, autoarrange is disabled). I can move icons wherever
during the session, but sometimes they are resetted, and always the
position is resetted when I logoff. It seems that everytime I log in,
autoarrange icon is applyed (but it isn't active). Probably some
registry is corrupted, but I can't restore (I don't think I have a
restore registry); anybody knows how to fix this problem?

many thanks in advance

Not a good idea.

Use the System Restore tool unless those tools have an "Undo" option.

The System Restore tool restores the registry as well.

I'm unable to use it, I'm administrator but that service is disabled to
me

Other ideas?

Nope. Who disabled the System Restore Service?

May not help you for this problem, but, if you are using Norton
Internet Security, that software disables System Restore and there is a
Bulliten at NOrton's site how to disable Norton to allow you to use
Windows Restore

Note that I'm *not* the OP! I neither use any Norton crapware nor any
"clean-up" tools. That's why all of my systems run w/o any problems,
most likely.
