Registry Mishap!

I desperately need help to resolve this issue. I recently fooled around with
the registry editor (because a help site was trying to help me bypass an
error for installing a program) and I ended up adding "system" and
"administrator" to one of those "root_classes" I think, which didn't help the
installation of my program. So then I deleted them both, not thinking it
would affect anything, since they weren't there in the first place! Now when
I turn on my computer, it boots up fine, then goes to a blank blue screen
with an XP logo, but no option for username or passwords!

I desperately need some files off of the hard drive, if I have to do a
reformatting of the hard drive. So my questions are:

Is there a way to fix what I did, (assuming messing with the thigns I messed
with caused this in the first place) ?

Can I still recover my files from old hard drive and if so, how?

and lastly, I tried installing XP all over again, and it didn't work, and
was going to try the Recovery option, but I forgot the admin password, so how
do I get that back?
