Registry access denied

I am cleaning a computer that had a couple of trojans. I didn't note which
ones they were, but at the moment they appear to be gone (finally). One
problem remains however. I need to get into the registry to get rid of a
reference to one of the trojan files that no longer exists and apparently one
of the trojans locked access to the registry. I receive an error message
that says something like "Registry access denied by the administrator".
Well, there is only one active account on the system and it has administrator
rights. How do I restore permission to access the registry?

Group Policy -> User Configuration -> Admin Templates -> System

In the right-hand pane, disable "Prevent access to registry editing tools"

Hi

In the menu at http://www.dougknox.com, select Security,
Disable/Enable Registry Editing Tools.

This small VB Script will remove this restriction. If the
first time the script is run it says "Disabled", run it
again to enable registry edits again.

Thanks for the info Keith but I apparently neglected to mention that the
computer is running XP Home, so group policy is not an avialable option. I
have attempted to configure a custom MMC to view and edit the local computer
security policies and that option is not available either.
