Registered Names

How do you change the name that shows who the computer is
registered to? There are programs installed that reveal
that info as well. Thanks.

You need to go to Start, Run, regedit to get to these locations and make the

I went to the location you mentioned.....everything is
there as you listed but the part where it says
RegisteredOrganization or RegisteredOwner. Nothing listed
like that in my line. What should I do?

The NT link that was mentioned is the right one for WinXP. When you Open
"Current Version" under this link, if nothing is in the Data field (or even
if there is something), double click on the Name (as listed below) and type
what you want to show in the pop-up box. Close it and that will remain on
this installation.

I have no idea why they are listed in one and not the other.
Or how it's decided which key they get listed under.

Greetings --

To fix the "Registered to" information for WinNT/2K/XP, you can
use Start > Run > Regedit.exe to edit:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\RegisteredOwner

and:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current
Version\RegisteredOrganization

How this will affect the name displayed in previously installed
applications will vary depending upon each individual program; some
read the registered owner information dynamically, while others read
it only during installation.

No...I have no listing there. I don't even have the words
RegisteredUser, Registeredowner, or anthting close to that
in the current version section.
