Hi guys,
I have just build a new computer, everything went ok but have a few
problems, so I am trying different configuration, and have to clean instal
window, I have registered it twice using the new computer, eg with only one
hard drive connected instead of three, and different periferal connected.
My question is how many time will I be able to activate it before I have
problems with activation. What I am going to do know is re instal and wait
till it is work correctly before the next registration and activation.
Advice Please
Thanks and Regards
Bob

There's no limit to the number of times you can reinstall and
activate the same WinXP license on the same PC. Nor is there ever a
charge. Nor does a Product Key (so long as it's not an evaluation
license) ever expire. If it's been more than 120 days since you last
activated that specific Product Key, you'll most likely be able to
activate via the Internet without problem. If it's been less, you might
have to make a 5 minute phone call.

Here are the facts pertaining to activation:

A suggestion if you are simply trying different configurations and are
re-installing regularly. Don't activate. You have thirty days before you
need to activate so, as i always point out, wait until you are satisfied
with the way the system is running before activating. it does save a lot of
hassle.
Other than that i agree with the comments Bruce has made in his post to you.

Thanks John,
I have found the problem, the HDD, I replaced the IDE HDD W/Digital 320G
with a Seagate 40G drive, the only thing is that I have registered and
activated Windows Xp with the OS on a different Drive, will this be ok to
activate and register again?
Regards
Bob

As Bruce pointed out in his post you may have to spend 5 or 10 minutes on
the phone activating the product because it has been less than 120 days
since the change of hardware (i.e, 320G WD HDD to a 40G Seagate HDD).
However, this shouldn't prevent activation. If the automated phone
activation will not authorise activation you will be passed on to a 'real'
person (this may take a little longer but the call is toll free). Just
explain what has happened and activation should go ahead.

However, as i said in my original post, if you intend 'playing around' with
installations (changing hardware etc) don't activate until you are satisfied
with the end result. 30 days is quite a long time to have the opportunity to
change out hardware and check configurations.
