register contacts to Outlook profile? (Outlook 2003)

I inadvertently disconnected my contacts folder (and my calendar) from my
profile by removing them from the All Mail Folders section of the left
navigation pane. I thought that the little icons in the bottom section of
that pane would be sufficient. However now when I attempt to use autoresolve
in e-mail messages or to search in contacts, it can't find anything.

All my contacts are still in the contacts folder, they're just apparently no
longer associated with my Outlook profile. I've tried exporting to a csv and
then importing, but that doesn't help.

Any ideas?

thanks!

You cannot remove or "disconnect" a default folder from a profile, nor do
those folders even appear in the All Mail Items view. So you must have done
something else. Having an accurate description of what you actually did
would be a help in figuring out how to fix it.
The behavior you describe would occur if you removed your Contacts Folder
from the address book service. Is that what you did? If so, reconfigure it:

Changing the navigation pane UI has no effect on any other part of Outlook's
operation. I'd suggest you look elsewhere for the source of the problem:

1) Look on the Properties dialog for the Contacts folder to make sure it's
still marked as part of the Outlook Address Book.

2) Use Tools | Address Book, Tools | Options to bring up the Address Book
dialog and check its settings, especially the address lists used to resolve
names in outgoing messages.

Exporting and importing may, in fact, have messed things up, leaving some
contacts with unresolved email addresses.

Thanks, Sue.

In the Contacts folder Outlook Address Book tab on the Properties dialog
box, the Show this folder as an e-mai Address book checkbox was cleared, so I
checked that. This connected my contacts list to the autoresolve function.

Then when I clicked Address Book from the Tools menu, I got a message that
the Contacts folder was corrupt, deleted, or moved - clicking OK to open the
Address Book dialog box, it was empty. Then on the Options tab from the Tools
menu, the Addressing dialog box showed two Contacts folders. I selected the
other option in all three fields on this dialog box, and now my contacts
appear in the Address Book.

It makes me a little nervous that Outlook thinks there are two identically
named Contacts folders - especially when I see only one through the
interface. It would be nice to know how to delete the one that's not being
used.

thanks again!

Outdated references to Contacts Folders in the address book view occur very
commonly whenever you make changes. They're easily removed here:
Tools > E-mail accounts > View or change existing directories or address
books > Outlook Address Book > Change… >
