i keep getting errors, ie shuts down, programs wont
start, and i'd hate to have to do a full reinstall of xp
and loose the hundreds of mp3's the i have

A Registry cleaner probably won't help and could make matters worse. What
errors, what programs? There is most likely a more elegant solution to your
problems.

While I agree that cleaning the registry may not solve this person's
problems, there are cases in which cleaning the registry does help, such
as after a botched application install prior to re-installing. I have
never seen any problems result from using a good registry cleaner in XP
(or any other version of Windows for that matter). Why would cleaning
out invalid registry entries cause problems?

Sometimes the registry clean could remove an entry from a removed
application that is also used by another appilication. Windows is full of
inter-denpend files and the registry cleaner may not be updated regularly so
as to take this into consideration.

Good point. Thanks. So far using RegCleaner 4.3 from Juni Vourio I have
not run into that issue.
