Trying to remove netscape navigator registry key from:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Netscape
When trying to remove this key is says, Netscape Navigator cannot be opened.
An error is preventing this key from being opened. Details: Access is denied..
Was trying to do is install Adobe reader, and it wouldnt due to netscape
navigator preventing installation.. Netscape is not anywhere else on this
computer. Any ideas
Thanks in advance.

Well, this is a scoop (IMHO).

MS has left doors half open for established and semi- software makers to
hook their cr*p to their registry. They want to stay out of trouble, afraid
of lawsuits and in general they do not want to be mean. What if you DO WANT
to install Netscape?

Therefore they included marks (mentions) in the registry under the
classification: Friendly Software. It is sort of a flag. Netscape got this
distinction along with hundreds of others.

You should NOT attempt to remove this key from the registry. This is clear.

The next step is to find out why you got in trouble with Adobe?

A remote but real possibility is that you got Firefox and or Thunderbird on
your computer. This is Netscape. If this it true, you may get a bunch of
problems but I won't go into it until you validated it.

If this is not the case, you may try to examine Adobe related registry nodes
instead and see if there is something in there that is related to Netscape.
You may also email Adobe and tell them what is going on. You may try to post
the exact event error log entries related to the failure. It might be
helpful for analysis.

To take ownership of what? Ownership or not, what does it have to do with
Netscape? Why is the Netscape in the picture when he tries to install Adobe?

I kinda guessed that but what would it do?

I am not trying to prove you are wrong. Maybe you have a point but how is it
going to work under the circumstances?

Somebody has to explain why in the world did it happen in the first place?

NetScape is in many other places in the registry too. What if Vista breaks
down at the next boot because it doesn't see a piece of its "Friendly
Software?"

Then it proves that the Vista code is not robust enough to handle opening a
non-existant registry key.

It is robust enough to keep idiots like you tampering with the keys.

It is an EXISTING registry key, you demented as*shole. Stop embarrassing
yourself.

You have absolutely no authority to say anything computer related. every
time you are trying to post it is another blander.

What a nuisance!!!

Hello....McFly !!!!!

The OP wanted to delete a registry key.

If the OP had deleted the key, you asked....

'What if Vista breaks down at the next boot because it doesn't see a
piece of its "Friendly Software ?'

Then I answered...

'Then it proves that the Vista code is not robust enough to handle
opening a non-existant registry key.'

Which is exactly what the subject of the exchange was about.

This is a classic example of why top-posting can be bad. You read
something....get a reply....possibly top-posted again....top-post a
reply, and by the time you have sent two posts, and in between looking at
other groups, you get lost as to where you were in the conversation
because you never have to scroll down and even see what was said already.
You think you remember.

This could be extremely troublsesome for those that suffer from certain
mental disorders and other antisocial deviances as it could cause them to
become entranced in their own perverted fantasy world that only exists in
their own mind.

Communications with the outside world becomes nearly impossible, as words
and thoughts become transposed inside their mind and when they try to
speak, sentences from two or more completely different conversation's
become intertwined, and other are extremely confused as to what the
person is trying to say.

We call this Top-Poster-Syndrone, or TPS for short.

The entire time this is going on, the top-poster has absolutely no idea
and in their mind they see the world rejecting them.

At first, others try to politely tell him he or she that they don't
understand what they're trying to say, and just point out something so
they may realize it and make a more conscious effort to understand what
is going on. But those affected by TPS immediately go on the offensive
claiming outlandish stories of wealth, might and glory, and at the same
time, most psychotic top-posters spew insults riddled in filth and claims
of superiority with strong racial and anti-gay overtones, and a
widespread and general distrust of everyone.

There is little help available for people affected by TPS, as most
absolutely refuse to accept that they could be suffering from TPS, and
just quietly suufer in darkness alone, ashamed of what they have become.

I've seen a lot of kooks come and go, like w_tom & Almond, never heard
from again. I guess the ultimate end of TPS is just a total disconnect
from the entire world around you, until ultimately, you die.

Boy it sucks to be you !!!!
