regedit

Hello guys,
I am sure this is an easy question, but for some reason I can not figure it
out. When I click start->run->[type] regedit
I get the following error:
regedit is not a valid win32 application.

but if I type regedit.exe it loads up regedit?

does anyone know why this happens, and if so how can I fix this?

This error often means that Windows simply cannot find the executable
file in question. Have you verified that Regedit.exe actually exists on
your hard drive? Have you checked to ensure that your Path statement
includes the C:\Windows\System32 folder (the normal location of
Regedit.exe)?

Right-click My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Environment Variables
System Variables, high-light the Path variable and click <Edit>. It
should read something like:

%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem

If you find a file named regedit.com in your system, delete it first. It's
most likely a virus. The file may be present in one of these locations:

C:\Windows
C:\Windows\System32
C:\Documents and Settings\{username}
