REGEDIT (or other access tools) ?

Hi.

From scanning the titles of the last 719 posts, I gather that one *can*
access the system registry in Windows 2000. I've been caught in the land
of antiques for the past several years; i.e., Win'95. I'm not
complaining really. I mention this only by way of saying that I'm
familiar with REGEDIT and I'm wondering:

1. is there a REGEDIT for W2k? If not... then are there other tools

2. is the WinXP registry accessible? If so, is there a REGEDIT for XP?
If not, are there other registry editors available for XP?

Thanks.

Windows NT, 2000, XP and 2003 all have registries.
REGEDIT will not allow you to change permissions on registry branches in
Windows 2000.
In Windows XP and 2003, you can change registry permissions from REGEDIT.
Typically, you should not alter permissions as it may cause a number of
other things not to work properly.

You can use REGEDT32 to alter registry permissions in Windows 2000 and NT.

Remember to always make a backup of any key you plan on changing....
Windows 9x is much easier to recover from mistakes made in the registry.

Yes, there is. Actually, Win2k (and NT4) is coming with two different
registry editors, regedit.exe and regedt32.exe.

If you want to edit multistring values, or load a hive, or set
registry permissions, you need to use regedt32.exe
2. is the WinXP registry accessible? If so, is there a REGEDIT for XP?

Yes, there is. In WinXP (and Win2k3), regedit.exe and regedt32.exe are
merged together, so you will be able to do everything from regedit.exe,
if you try to start regedt32.exe in WinXP, regedit.exe will actually
be started.
