Problem starting Regedit via Start / Run

This isn't really a Registry problem. Any pointer to a more
appropriate forum is appreciated.

I have Windows 2000, no significant problems in 4 years, all
security updates installed.

Starting early today, I can no longer type anything in the Start /
Run window. In particular, today I want to run Regedit to look for
something, but I hardly ever change anything using that program.

This machine is on a router but no other machines are presently
connected to it. I'm the only user. I use Microsoft Anti-spyware
and several other anti-spyware tools, and they all say I'm clean.

I'm not prevented entirely from running Regedit. I just opened a
command prompt window and typed the command.

The only other thing that was unusual today, I have been having
problems with ZoneAlarm. It doesn't remember any of the sites that
I have been adding to the "Trusted Zone". So today, when I booted
up, I uninstalled ZoneAlarm. Then I wanted to use Regedit to scan
the registry, see what ZoneAlarm left behind, then ask about that on
a ZoneAlarm group.

What setting can I change to restore access to commands at the Start
/ Run window?

Sorry about that. Actually, it's fixed itself. It would not let me
type anything in the Open window (Start / Run). And the OK button
was grayed out. All working now.

Now, I suspect that some other program was hogging all resources
right at that moment, and prevented the focus from shifting back to
that box.

Steven,

Microsoft always complain about ZoneAlarm blocking sites like windows
Update...

Another thing I have noticed about what you wrote & that is you have
Microsoft AntiSpyWasre - GET RID OF IT!!!!!!!!!!! Now, delete the rest of
the spyware tools. See the following page:

http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm#xos_note

Download SpyBot S & D instead:

http://www.spybot.info/en/download/index.html

In Regedit, you may have a security menu & permissions sub menu. If so, make
sure you have permissions
