Refurbuished ASUS P4P8X SE MB from NewEgg

Just received my Refurbuished ASUS P4P8X SE MB from NewEgg. What a
disaster...

- upon opening the box I found the MB wasn't in its static bag
- dust was caked on the capacitors surrounding the CPU socket
- the CD was not usable because it was scratched so badly

Haven't tried it yet, but I'm wondering what kind of crap NewEgg is
selling. What do they mean by "Refurbished" when it arrives at the
customer's doorsteep covered in dust...

Anyhow, the second part to this story is I ordered two refurbished
ASUS MB's from NewEgg. When I opened the box to the second one, the
first thing I saw was a piece of paper that was the "RMA Summary" from
the previous owner - the description of the problem was the MB
wouldn't post. This was disconcerting; I assumed it was just an
oversight and they forgot to remove the paper after they "REFURBISHED"
it. Anyhow, it didn't POST... Someone RMA'd it, and NewEgg just turned
around and shipped it to me, and probably collected some fee or credit
from their ASUS distributor. I smell fraud going on here.

Everyone says NewEgg is so great, perhaps that is true for their
non-refurbished stuff, but stay away from buying refurbished stuff
from them - they will send you complete garbage.

As is always the case, there are others who have not had the same
experience you've had. I've purchased 2 A7N8X-DLX mobos and a Biostar
M7NCD-PRO mobo from the refurb pages of Newegg and all three worked
nicely, all were packaged in anti-static bags (the Asus mobos came in
a white box with no cables/accessories), and the Biostar mobo actually
came in the original box with manuals, cables, and CDs. Return them
to Newegg, they will take care of you. It appears you are a victim of
someone's sloppiness.

Refurbished is misleading, they are merchandise that has been returned to new
Egg for one reason or another. Sometimes people screw up a MB by flashing the
bios wrong and and they RMA it because of their screw up, so you end up with a
dead board. Sometimes they just dont like the board after they buy it so they
return it,in which you get a working board.
If you read the motherboard forums you'll see what i mean. New Egg will
refund your money,i bought a refurb that was dead, and they gave me credit for
it. They dont test the returned merchandise they just throw it in a box and
sell it as is. You have people that dont know how to build computers to thank
for returned F$%&@D up returned merchandise, and inmature people that return
stuff because they dont like their choice. Sometimes you can get a very good
deal on something if it works. DOUG

If you read the disclaimer on the site it tells you in not uncertain terms
that the "refurbished" items are not repaired, tested or anything of the
sort. This disclaimer shows up each and every time you go to checkout with
a refurb item in your cart! If I recall right you have to acknowledge that
you read it before you can proceed.

My luck with their refurb items has been just fine - but other have not had
the same result. As they say (paraphrase) purchase at your own risk.

FWIW, Len
