refund anyone?

Has anyone actually returned Vista for a refund as per
http://www.microsoft.com/mscorp/productrefund/refund.asp ?

Has anyone actually applied for and received a refund from Microsoft?

Microsoft North American Retail Product Refund Guidelines
http://www.microsoft.com/mscorp/productrefund/refund.asp

I'm a little leary of this procedure since is states:
"Microsoft will refund your purchase price subject to policy
guidelines and warranty and license agreement provisions."

Doesn't that say then, that the refund policy is actually dictated by,
among other things, the product EULA nad not this web page?

This same page contains the following links at the bottom for:
"Additional Information About Microsoft Warranties and License
Agreements"

[links as follows]
- Genuine Microsoft Software
- Microsoft North American Retail Software Warranty Procedures
- End-User License Agreement For Microsoft(R) Software for Use with
Microsoft Hardware Devices

It seems I should be able to follow these links for further
information regarding thier "policy guidelines, warranties & license
agreement provisions" Only one problem - all three of these links are
broken.

What's up with this?

Just send it back and state that you "DO NOT" agree with the EULA - which
you couldn't read until you opened the box.

Now, if you have already installed and activated Vista, it is a bit of a
stretch say that at this point you don't agree.

20-30 % Of people who installed vista are formating and installing XP again.

Yea but, has anyone gone through the procedure MS spelled out, then
successfully received a refund?

That's the question.

So far it appears the answer is NO

people want a better new os.. they are clinging to their vista hoping that
MS will at last start doing a decent job and fix the darn thing with a
service pack...

I guess even with all the complaining here that people are keeping Vista. If
they did return it they likely would never come back here as they no longer
are using it.

I have not returned it so I can not help you.

It seems as if even if you have a good install of Vista, or you have
received it with a new computer, that it is only a matter of time before
it will fail you.
1. It wont let you install all of your equipment.
2. It will want to be reactivated when you install a game or update your
drivers.
3. You wont be able to watch movies or play music.
4. Your sidebar or widgets will crash mysteriously.
5. It wont recognize your external hard drives or pen drives, or it will
copy your files so slowly that you can eat dinner while you wait.
There are any number of other things that will happen unexpectedly, while
you are trying to use it.

Usually, I would be one of the first ones to try out a new OS. I work on
other people's computers, and need to know how to work with an OS.
However, I dont want Vista anywhere near my computer. Currently I have XP
and Linux coexisting peacefully on a multi-partition, multi-drive system
consisting of Sata drives. I have files that I need for my business. I
dont want to risk destroying my system, as it is set up, and that is one
of the real risks that I see with Vista. Vista, like XP, should just work,
and it doesnt.

At most computer retailers the policy is: if a software package has been
opened it cannot be returned. For hardware the policy is a lot more buyer
friendly.

Getting a refund from Microsoft seems impossible to me. Who buys directly
from Microsoft other than computer manufacturers and corporate buyers?

Just say it irrevocably crashed your computer and it will never work on your
machine. The store "could" take it back if you see the right manager. But, yeah,
where are the stories of successful refunds?

Still on the installation I did when Vista was 1st released. No probs here.
1. It wont let you install all of your equipment.

Yes it did.
2. It will want to be reactivated when you install a game or update your
drivers.

So far this is not the case.
3. You wont be able to watch movies or play music.

No probs watching divx/xvid videos or playing mp3s here.
4. Your sidebar or widgets will crash mysteriously.

Not crashed once.
5. It wont recognize your external hard drives or pen drives, or it will
copy your files so slowly that you can eat dinner while you wait.

Have several USB discs & pen drives, all working perfectly.

Such as?

It works ok here.

Depends upon the *EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURER* providing Vista drivers. This is
*NOT* a Vista issue.

2. It will want to be reactivated when you install a game or update your

Complete Hogwash.

3. You wont be able to watch movies or play music.

Movies and Videos will play just fine.

4. Your sidebar or widgets will crash mysteriously.

I have 5 computers runnign Vista; 3 desktops and 2 laptops. 4 of the
computers were upgraded. Not a single one of them has ever had a widget
crash.

5. It wont recognize your external hard drives or pen drives, or it will
copy your files so slowly that you can eat dinner while you wait.

Again, complete hogwash. If you did not install the proper drivers for your
motherboard, the USB are probably operating at v1.1 speeds. Again, Not a
Vista problem,

There are any number of other things that will happen unexpectedly, while

Since you are apparently unaware that you must have drivers for all of your
hardware available *before* you install, I would say that your problems are
caused by your own actions. I have not had any issues on any of the 5
computers it is installed on here. All computers are of varying age, and I
made sure I had drivers for all components before installing Vista.
Versions of Vista range fro Vista Business to Vista Ultimate.

No problems here!

Their 45 day refund policy is standard. I returned Works Suite because
I didn't want it. Microsoft refunded the price and the sales tax plus what
it cost me to ship it to them. If it has been less than 45 days since you
bought Vista, you can get a check by shipping them the DVD, the box, its
wrapper, a copy of the store receipt and a note with some reason or other,
and you need to furnish them with your address and phone number. Here:

I am happy that you are enjoying such a problem free experience with
Vista. Let me know, if things change....

Might lead one to believe that most people like it and keep it,
but that's just a guess on my part :)

oh yea, that MUST be it... <rolling eyes>

more like, there are people who have tried, but as per the original
question, NO, no one has actually received a refund.
just more of Microsoft being slippery is all

A better question would be, who has shipped Vista back and when?
If they had shipped it back on the first day it was on sale, the check
should have showed up. Figuring shipping, it takes about 6 weeks -
MS says two to four just for turn around in San Leandro.

My experience with a different product was that I got the check.

More likely that people will stay with Vista until they become as competent
with it as they are with Windows XP. They are not likely even looking for a
refund.
