Reformatting Hard Drive

I was running Win 98 on my computer and recently had a
second hard drive installed. The new drive was designated
the Master and Win XP was instslled on it. Now my computer
will not recognize my modem which was installed just two
months ago. The modem manufacturer could not help me with
the problem so I plan to reformat the new hard drive and
re-install Win 98. My question is: How do I reformat the
hard drive?

I tried un-installing Win XP, but could not seen to get rid
of it. I tried installing Win 98 over it, and it would not
let me. It seems to me the only way to solve my conflicts
between Win XP and my hardware is to just reformat the C:
drive and then re-install Win 98.

When you installed the 2nd hard drive, you should have left the first hard drive as Master and the new hard drive as Slave. Did you do this? Please answer and come back to me, fitting a 2nd hard drive is easy, you should have no need to format. Bye for now.

Installing XP will not affect drivers in 98.

Just delete the 98 files in XP.

Have you checked the modem and printer manufacturers web site for XP
compatible drivers? XP compatible modems are very cheap, if the modem does
not have XP support.

Sounds like Win 98 is still installed on the slave drive, so you can
probably disconnect the XP hard drive and connect the Win 98 drive back to
the master. Boot with a Win 98 startup disk and type sys C: at the A: prompt
press ENTER. Then type fixmbr at the prompt press ENTER. Remove the Startup
disk and reboot. if none of the root files were deleted, it should boot into
Win 98.
Do not reconnect the XP hard drive as the slave unless you intend to wipe
the drive and format the drive in fat 32.
