Reformatting C Drive

I'm trying to reformat my c drive and wipe it clean. From a dos prompt, I've typed in format c: /fs:ntfs. I get an error, though saying that the volume is in use by antoher process. It asks me if I want to force a dismount of the volume. When I say yes, I get another message stating "Cannot Lock the drive. The volume is still in use."

It then takes me back to a dos prompt. Dos is the only thing running

Ideas?

Hi JJ,

You cannot format the system drive while you are using it. Even at a command
prompt, the system drive is in use. You would need to boot the WinXP CD and
start a new installation, then format as part of the setup routine. You do
realize that formatting will remove all of your existing data and system,
yes?
