What drive (letter) are you attempting to format?

Is it another physical drive or is it another partition on the same physical

When you attempt to format the drive, *how* are you doing this? Through
device manager and deleting the partition/creating a new one and formatting
it? Command prompt? Right-click and format? During the setup phase of
Windows XP?

The bad device might be my dvd rom drive, if the error 116 was in d:,
