Assuming you want to delete everything and have made backups of
important data, email, addresses, favorites:
Disconnect the PC from the network.
Boot from the Windows 2000 CD.
Choose to delete all partitions.
Create a new partion.
Install Windows 2000 on the new partition (preferably NTFS
format).
Check the Device Manager for missing drivers.
Find and install the missing drivers.
Protect your PC against virusses and worms before you connect it
to any network (that means: install anti virus software, Service
Packs and critical security hotfixes from CD or USB drive).
Does the CD drive work when Windows is up and running?
Do you mean it refuses to boot from CD?
To allow boot from CD the boot priority must be set in the Bios
(PC setup), usually hit F1 or F2 or F10 during the boot selftest
to get intor the Bios setup.
There should be a Boot sequence setting, usally:
Floppy>CD-drive>Harddisk
If it still doesn't boot from CD it might be your PC hardware is
rather old, and you need 4 four Windows 2000 boot floppies.
To create the boot floppies:
Format 4 floppies.
Put the Windows 2000 CD in any running Windows PC
Cd to the cd\bootdisk folder
Run: makebt32.exe
I'm not an expert, but these steps should cover it.
1. Put Windows 2000 CD in drive
2. exit all set up windows that will then autostart
3. Restart the computer
4. Enter the BIOS (usually press and hold the Delete key at start up)
5. Make the CDROM the first boot disk
6. Save this and exit the bios - the computer should start to boot up
7. The computer should then boot from the Windows CD and installation should
start and you can continue as above.
