Hi!

I'm installing Win2K a Dell Inspiron 7500 laptop, and I'm
intending to create a Ghost Image (GIMAGE) of the unit.

I notice that when I've installed Win2K, the touchpad
driver, Nero Express (for a USB 2.0-attached DVD Burner)
and then applied all of the avaialable patches and
updates, the C: now holds 1.6GB

I notice that there are lots of uninstall files for the
patches, etc., and 1.6GB seems a bit excessive. Am I
correct in this? I was hoping that I could fit just the
O/S and drivers in the 680mb of a CD-ROM. which would make
restores / clones a lot easier.

Is there any way I can pare down the size of the "base"
O/S + drivers image?

Thanks

Thomas

Ghost compresses the image anyway. So try taking a Ghost image of the
machine with the current 1.6GB C drive and see how big the resultant image
is.

Hi Brendon!

Already did. Got it down to 1.2GB.

But , if I started with 320mb, I'd get 240mb.

I'd really like to be able to Ghost these laptops in 8
minutes istead of 32 minutes.

You can safely remove the Service Pack and Hotfix uninstall files
(C:\Winnt\$NTUninstall****$) as long as you dont need to remove this later
on.
