Reducing the brightness of the WindowsXP Explorer background.

Frank Martin

I have a new monitor a BENQFP421W which I
have configured for the optimum viewing of
graphics.

However the white background of applications
such as IE7, OE, and Windows Explorer is too
bright. If I reduce the brightness of
these in the normal way, then the graphics
quality is effected.

Can I reduce the Windows brightness
background only via XP? I am thinking of
Photoshop and lightroom which have a grey, or
adjustable, background.

Please help, Frank

Yes you can.

Go to display properties, 'Appearance' tab, 'Advanced' button, click on the
white window background where it says 'Window Test', choose a new color
under 'Color1'.

Thanks, I did it. Reducing the background
to a light grey is *much* easier on the
eyes.
