Redoing XP home

I have had to get a new computer after the old one died. I would like to
keep using the XP home version that I was using. I hear that you can only
use XP once for a specific computer, but now I have a new motherboard and
chipset will I have to buy another copy of XP?

If you have an "OEM Version" of Windows XP, the license cannot
be transferred to a different computer. If you have a "Retail Version",
that license can be transferred to a different computer once you remove
Windows XP from the old computer by reformatting the hard drive.

What if I want to use the same harddrive that was in the old system. It has
the XP already installed, the hard drive and everything else is ok just had
to replace the motherboard and chip

that mostly depends on what kind of xp disc you have , since you'll have to
do a repair install after installing a new mother board . if its a
manufacturer's restore disc or a bios locked oem disc , you're out of luck .
if it's an ms oem disc , no problem , but you'll have to re-activate . if
its been more than 120 days since last activated you'll be able to activate
over the internet , otherwise just use the phone option and tell the service
rep you had to replace your defective motherboard .
