redirect sound output from cd player to headphone jack

When I play a music cd on my pc (win xp pro), the sound is audible through
the computer's speakers. How can I redirect it to the headphone jack on the
cd player?

Thanks,

Clem.

The headphone jack should always be energized and not require anything
from you to activate. What you will probably want to do is turn off the
speaker system or turn down the software volume control so that only the
headphones are working if privacy is the issue.

CD Players will have some type of volume control on the front panel
usually next to the headphone jack. Make sure that this is turned up.

If you really meant the headphone jack on your sound card as opposed to
line-out, that will need to be activated by your sound card's software.

Robert,

Thanks for your response.

Yes, I am talking about the jack on the front of the CD player panel. There
is a volume control right next to it, but no matter how I set it or the
controls for the computer speakers, there is no signal coming from it.
Incidentally, the headphones do work on my laptop.

I guess the most likely thing then is that the CD player output to the jack
is defective?

If you have any other ideas, please let me know.

Clem.
