Thw royal we or have you asked around? It is in my add-in control panel. I
guess I should remove. What about the other question? Also could you tell
me if it is alright to delete the other account the Outlook BCM creates when
it installs? I referr to the .net stuff. I will not be using in an
Exchange evoirnment.

No, this means that you have provided little to no information for anyone to
begin to help you. The Outlook version is the most basic information.
However, seeing as you mention the BCM, it becomes obvious that you are
using Outlook 2003.

What add-ins are you using that would install the Outlook Redemption Helper?
It is not a part of the default Outlook 2003 installation.

That is my question sweet and simple. What is the add-in "redemption helper
outlook extension" I have not knowingly added anything that should have
installed that add-in. Googling around I did discover that it is designed to
get around some of Outlooks security or to allow 3rd party software run
without tripping the security prompt. I did install a program some time ago
called readnotify that was a receipt of email program. Maybe it did the
deed.

I have un-ticked it and it went away. I see nothing affected by the change.
I just am a little paranoid about unknown program add-in/extensions etc. So
if anyone as an answer What is the add-in "redemption helper outlook
extension" please post. As my system been compromised?

The Redemption Outlook Helper Exchange extension is installed by any COM
addin that uses Redemption, as you surmised. It is used to provide help for
Redemption to use the logged in Outlook session for its MAPIOBJECT
references and to avoid use of an Extended MAPI logon. So it makes things
quicker when using Redemption and ensures that the MAPI logon matches the
Outlook Session logon. Without it the addin will still run but might be
marginally slower.

Almost all of my COM addins use Redemption and therefore install that
helper. I probably have 5 or 6 instances of it listed on most of my
machines.

The Exchange property page Exchange extension is used when you are designing
Exchange forms. It does no harm and if you never do that you can remove it.

I have 2 machines running the same software and setup. One uses redemption
and the other does not. I un-ticked in com add-in's it but when I reboot it
comes backed ticked. Is redemption a security risk of any kind? I
understand it is called by several developers but can I establish what is
calling this occurrence? Based on what it gets around it could be used to
access just about anything in my setup.

Thanks again

If Redemption is installed on one machine and not the other then you aren't
running the same code on both. There's an Outlook addin or a standalone
application on the one that installed Redemption.

In my COM addins I use a customized version of Redemption with custom
CLSID's so a hacker would need to know my CLSID's and object names before
they could piggy-back their code on my installed version of Redemption. In
addition I use the AuthKey property that restricts use of Redemption even
further unless the hacker knows my AuthKey value.

Properly written code that uses Redemption does that and that minimizes the
security risks to almost zero. Sloppy code might not customize Redemption
but even then the hacker must know that Redemption is installed and how to
use it. Nothing in software is risk-free unless you never connect to the
Internet and never receive any emails.

......Delete redemption. Because while both computers are running the same
programs the one with redemption running is older it may be a remnant of
something I tried or fooled around with. When I untick it comes back with a
new boot. I do not know what program put it there but would feel better
with it gone. Thanks for your help.

Then finding it would entail checking every COM addin you have installed
plus any standalone applications that have anything to do with Outlook. I'd
just leave it alone, the risk is really minimal.
