Red x in place of images

Since last Friday I have had 6 computers on our network show up with the same
problem. Some sites will not display pictures correctly. They get the place
holder with a red x inside. If you go to View -> Encoding and change the
setting to Western European (Windows) the page will reload and display
everything correctly. I have tried everything I can find on the web -
registry settings, checked IE settings, etc - nothing has worked as a long
term fix. I thought that it might have something to do with an IE patch
released lately but I have not seen anyone with the same problems. This is
too many computers to be coincidence. They all have Windows 2000 with all of
the latest updates/service packs. I appreciate any help that you can offer!

I saw a similiar problem recently. I ended up fixing it by going to:
Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs->Microsoft Internet Explorer->
Add/Remove, then clicked on the "Repair" option. So far it's been OK
since.
