When I run a program called Norton SystemWorks 2004 it has a section called disk optimizer. When I run this program it puts my info for drives in a better order like defragmenting. My question is that I see a file called "RECYCLER\" and when looking at my harddrive I can't locate it. This file seems to have all kinds of info that was deleted years ago. The space it takes up is getting larger it seems. How can I get this file to show so I may clear it out(empty)? I have all hidden files shown and can not locate it. Where does windows XP keep this info stored?

Thanks
Mike

Brew444,

Just to fill you in on what the file is:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?
scid=http://support.microsoft.com:80/support/kb/articles/Q
171/6/94.ASP&NoWebContent=1

Bascially the Recycler folder is used by NTFS. To stored
delete files from multiple users. If you do want to
clear the contents, the below KB will guide you through
it.

Hope this helps

I have tried that and can not seem to locate it. When I type that in it takes me to

Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
(C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

C:\Documents and Settings\Mike>D:

D:\>recycler
'recycler' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

D:\>cd recycler

D:\RECYCLER>dir
Volume in drive D is Drive D
Volume Serial Number is D4CF-1F6E

Directory of D:\RECYCLER

File Not Found

D:\RECYCLER>

I do not have my OS on this drive anymore. This drive is a old drive from my computer it had everything on it ages ago.(many reinstalls since then). My present set up is I have 2 hard drives a 80gig dive C with OS,games, antivirus and firewall. Second or D drive is 40gig and has all my programs(music,movies,utilities,ect...)and storage. D must still have some info on it from previous installs atleast something to do with the recycler file and I feel I tried everything with the exception of copying everything to c one at a time and formatting drive D.This maybe my only solution to my problem. I have searched and read the newsgroup as much as I could on the recycle bin and the recycler file. I have tried alot that I thought would help and can't come up with a solution to my problem. My drive D's directory shows no reference to a recyle bin or recycler file.

Thanks
Mike

Brew444,

In all honesty, It's probably not actually using the
space you think it is. The files in there are probably
marked for deletion anyway, so will get over-written when
you put more stuff on you PC.

I personally wouldn't let it concern you..

However if you still want to look further at removing it
post back and well see what we can do.
