Recycler shows large size but no files

P

pszoke

When I go to one of my drive partitions in WIndows 2000
ADV Server, it shows the recycler folder with a size of
18GB, yet when I go inot the recycler there are no files
showing. There are also no files in the recycle bin I just
emptied it)

What is making up this 18GB?

Hi,
It could be that these are files that another user has in their Recycle Bin
on the computer, or it could be caused by a filter driver, or it could be
caused by disk corruption.

1. You can log on as other users and empty their recycle bin. If this is not
possible, you can try these steps:

a. Remove all file attributes by using the Attrib command.

b. Confirm that the logged on user has ownership or is in a group that has
ownership of

the file by using the Security tab of the Folder Properties.

c. Cold boot

d. Delete the file

2. If the problem is caused by a filter driver, you can try the steps in the
following article:

229041 Files Are Not Deleted From Recycler Folder
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=229041

3. If the problem is caused by disk corruption, you can run the following
command and repeat the steps for #1 and #2:

chkdsk /f /r
