Recycle Bin

I am using Windows XP SP2 and when I try to open the recycle bin it takes
forever to open and when I try to close it, it also takes forever to close.
This just started and I have rebooted which seemed to take a long time also
and the recycle bin still takes forever to open. Does anyone have a clue as
to what is going on or how to fix this?

See if resetting the Bin helps: from the Recovery Console you can
delete the RECYCLER folders on your drives to do this.

Does the same thing happen in Safe Mode?
Do you have any Norton products installed?

In the regular mode it takes up to 60 seconds to open and in the Safe Mode
it takes up to 30 seconds to open and yes I am using Norton anti virus 2004

This applied to norton 2003 and I have 2004 and it refers to norton recycle
bin which I do not have.
