recycle bin icon will not stay customized

Hi,

I have my recycle bin icons customized (used change icon in change
desktop settings in display properties).

Every once in a while, sometimes when I am reading newsgroups, like this
one. or burning a DVD or just after I have turned my monitor back on and
I wasn't doing anything at all, I'll notice the Recycle Bin icon is the
default recycle bin.

I'm sure occasionally it takes me some time to notice because I don't
look at the recycle bin that often.

Display properties change theme to another and back again fixes it.
Rebuilt icons in Tweak UI fixes it. Right click, refresh does nothing.
But it's very annoying.

Any ideas on what I can do to make the icons permanent? I've had XP for
a couple of years and these same icons set up - no problems. I
re-installed a while ago and I guess the trouble began then.

Thanks much.

Hi,

Keith has a workaround:

The fix is:

Start -> Run -> Regedit

Navigate to:
"HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Clsid"
(HKCU = HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT)

Right-click the folder icon for this key & select 'Permissions'

Click 'Advanced' -> click 'Add' -> type "System" -> click 'OK'

Put a check in the 'Deny' column for the 'Set Value' permission.

'OK' your way out.

Thank for the reply - there is already a System listed under Advance,
do I edit it to put Deny next to Set Value (The entire list is Allow) or
do I Add another one.

And, besides leaving my chosend icons alone, what else does this edit
do?

Do I edit it to Deny Set Value (all the list is Allow) or Add another
System?

BTW, what does this do? Just allow the system to leave my chosen icons
alone or anything else?
