recycle bin hangs when USB drive is attached

My recycle bin works fine unless I have a USB drive attached. Then whenever
I go to open the recycle bin, or empty it, or do just about anything else
with it, it and the entire desktop hangs from 30 seconds to more than a
minute.

Is this a known issue in Windows XP or am I just lucky?

Recycle Bin, Properties, set to Configure drives independently?

Still does it.

I wish Windows would leave that drive the hell alone. As in, "read only".

It should ignore the USB drive, but maybe you have changed something?
You install 3rd party disk utilities or TweakUI? Just guessing at this
point.

How interesting, I have never seen this and I run off of an external usb
drive. Is this Norton or XP default Recycle Bin?
