recycle bin...files deleted automatically??

my recycle bin stores 1500 items which is not many. My question is...when a new items i put into the recyle bin ..where do the older items go? Do they automatically get deleted or are they somewhere esle and how do i retrieve them..do i need software to get them back?
 
They don't get deleted automatically AFAIK.
Don't put things in the trash unless you are sure you want to throw them
out - the recycle bin is not a suitable storage location. Empty it
regularly. You wouldn't put your heirloom china in the trash, would you?
 
The older files are automatically deleted. If you want to dedicate more
space on your drive for the Recycle Bin to hold more files: Right click the
Recycle Bin desktop icon, left click Properties, and use the slider bar to
increase the Maximum Size of the Recycle Bin.
