Recycle Bin Empties on open

Jack T.

My Recycle Bin empties on open. When I open it, I see the files for a few
seconds. Then they instantly disappear. If I go back in they are gone.
The Do not move files to the Recycle Bin box is not checked, and the Display
delete confirmation dialog is checked. The maximum size of the Recycle bin
is set to 10% of a 100Gig drive. I tried right clicking on the recycle bin
and clicking on explore, but the exact same thing happens.

Dell Inspiron 8100, 512Megs, 100Gig HD, XP Professional SP/2, patched to the
latest, and no viruses or spyware as of this second. I don't have trouble
with anything else other than the normal Windows Explorer crashing once in
awhile. AV=Trend Micro, Spyware=SpySweeper. The system is clean and lots
of free drive space. It's been going on at least since SP/2.

Thanks,
Jack T.

Hi Jack,

This seems to work for many: Make sure that something is in the Recycle Bin
(delete any file). With the Recycle Bin closed, right click and choose:
Empty Recycle Bin. When the confirm box appears, click ok. Reboot. Now the
Recycle Bin should work correctly.
