I've got 2 Windows 2k Pro machines in which the Recycle Bin constantly
refreshes. Has anyone else come across this?

Thanks,
David

I've got the same issue with W2K SP4.

Basically when we open the recycle bin, the files list out slowly, then just
when you think it is done and you can click the Empty Recycle Bin button,
the file list goes away and regenerates itself. It's as if you hit the
File->Refresh menu option in explorer. It just keeps refreshing and
refreshing.

I've run scan disk, virus checks, adware checks, applied SP4...I'm stumped.

Thanks.

Ah thanks. I have never seen this and so hadn't the slightest idea what was being referred to.

Why don't you just delete the Recycler folder? Boot in Safe Mode and do away with it. Windows is designed to recreate the folder at the next boot.

Try setting the Recycle Bin to manage each drive seperately. One thing I have noticed is that when the Recycle Bin includes drives whuch have different formatting (ie NTFS; FAT32;...) Recycle Bin problems can occur.

But my best advice and from others here too is STOP using it. . The headache from it is not worth it.

Thanks, I'll give it a try.....

I wasn't able to delete the recycle bin in safe mode - I was going into
windows explorer and selecting the recycle bin right off the desktop -
delete had no effect. Is there a DOS path for the Recycle bin?

In other news...I seem to have remedied the problem by removing the file
indexing component of W2K (if you go to add/remove programs and select the
windows components button on the left hand panel, you will see the file
indexing component). Once that was gone, the recycle bin seemed to "settle
down" and I was able to empty it out.

Thanks.

Well it is definitely "delete" something eh?

Look again at what I told you. I did NOT say the Recycle Bin. I said the RECYCLER Folder. May need to have show all hidden files\folders to see this in the Windows Explorer folder tree. That you can delete in Safe Mode. But no need to do that if all's well.

If your system is NTFS, the recycle bin is \RECYCLER. I was able to
delete mine from Windows Explorer while the system was running normally,
which suggests that your inability to delete it was connected to he
refresh problem.
