recurring problem with Vista

I have had the same problem since March 5. I cannot log in to Vista
Mail -it just keeps asking for my username and password.
I have tried the suggestions given- uninstalling Norton, removing the mail
account, restarting computer, and redoing the account. I have checked with
Sympatico setup instructions for changes, I have unchecked box "Log on Using
Secure Password .

but nothing has worked. still getting the same error message:

Authentication" Account: 'pophm.sympatico.ca', Server: 'pophm.sympatico.ca',
Protocol:
POP3, Server Response: '-ERR command failed', Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes,
Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92

anything else I can try?

Did you run the cleanup program to take care of what the Norton uninstall
left behind?

You might check here to see if you used the right Sympatico setup
instructions:

http://upgradecentre.sympatico.ca/FAQGuide.aspx?p=FAQ_GOE

These instructions were written for Outlook Express, but should also
work under Windows Mail if they don't call for the HTTP protocol.
Such instructions often assume you're creating a new email account
instead of modifying one, so they don't tell you to check all the
settings where the required settings matched the default.

You might check if you have the Google Toolbar program installed,
and if so, uninstall it since it causes problems in Windows Mail.

Windows Mail has a quirk that often makes it forget your password
if you click Apply after adding a check mark before Remember
password as you do after most such changes. You may need to
click on Tools, then Accounts, then your email account, then
Properties, then Servers, then the end of the dots for the password,
then backspace over the dots, then enter the password again and
any approvals needed. I'm not sure if you should then click Apply.
Click on OK, then Close.
