Recurring Defender Message

Guest

Every day when I turn on the computer, I get the following message:
-- Process: C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MsMpEng.exe
Process Name: Service Executable
Process Publisher: Microsoft Corporation
Affected Items: C:\WINDOWS\Tasks\MP Scheduled Scan.job

Even though I check the "accept" button, I still get this every day. Any
suggestions how to get rid of this very annoying message? Thanks!

There are actually a couple of ways to do this:

Since Defender is alerting you to itself (a known permitted process)
rescheduling that MP Scheduled Scan task you could simply unclick Defender
notifying you about changes made to your computer by software that is
permitted to run. That's located in Defender > Options about half way down
the screen using the scroll bar.

OTH if you want to be informed of those permitted activities, but not every
scheduled scan you could add the scan to
Do not scan these files or locations:

C:\WINDOWS\Tasks\MP Scheduled Scan.job

As you can see, that "do not scan" box does impact real time monitoring as
well as scanning activity.

Dave,

I already have the notification about changes made to my computer by
software that is permitted to run unclicked, and C:\WINDOWS\Tasks\MP
Scheduled Scan.job doesn't exist on my computer because I have all automatic
scanning for Defender turned off. Any other suggestions. I'm still getting
this message every time I boot up, even though I click Allow and Remember
This every time it comes up. Thanks!

Hi Larry;

Are you getting that message from Defender or from another security
product, perhaps McAfee? Take a look at this thread, it looks like a
duplicate of this thread/problem:

I'd also recommend you attempt a repair of Defender, but additionally since
the Defender MP Scheduled scan is a hidden task, in order to show it in
Scheduled Tasks you need to go to the Scheduled Tasks Panel > Advanced >
View Hidden Tasks, so I think you should try enabling hidden tasks there as
well and confirm there is really no Defender scan scheduled but hidden.
