Recovery Install of Win XP- SP2

Hi all,
I was testing the recovery of a backup made to my external HD by Norton
Ghost 9. While in the dos recovery environment, I selected a file to recover
and it started doing so. BUT then all of a sudden it came up with the image
is bad. I checked another and it said that one was bad too. Then I went to
reboot to Windows and the computer bombed big time. So, I decided to do a
recovery install that started at the 39 minute mark. All went smoothly until
I reached the nine minute mark (saving settings.) The progress bar is still
going and it is still changing the promos on the screen, and it got about a
quarter of the way saving settings, but it won't finish
saving the settings. It just sits there, thinking I guess. I have all
updates to my software and just ran a scan
for viruses, adware, etc. All seems to be clean. I am running Win XP Pro on
a HP 1.8G AMD, with 512 Mgs of ram. Any ideas to finish setting this thing
up? I ran Bart's PE and all of the file structure is still there with the
files intact. I really don't want to do a full install, as that would wipe
everything out. Can ya help, please??
Thanks.

A recovery install ??? Do you mean you tried to do a "repair xp" from the
installation cd...If it fails thier,xp will fail even if it completes.Youre
best bet,
reinstall xp (clean installation),and deep six all the 3rd party trash you
run...
