Recovery disk

How can I make a 3.5" recovery diskette to salvage my
system? It presently boots partway and reboots. Goback
will not recover.
I need to be able to run Chkdsk or other utility to
correct problems on drive.

You can boot the recovery console and run
chkdsk /r
from the command line
(/r implies /f)

To start the Recovery Console, start the computer from the Windows 2000
Setup CD or the Windows 2000 Setup floppy disks. If you do not have Setup
floppy disks and your computer cannot start from the Windows 2000 Setup CD,
use another Windows 2000-based computer to create the Setup floppy disks.
Press ENTER at the "Setup Notification" screen. Press R to repair a Windows
2000 installation, and then press C to use the Recovery Console. The
Recovery Console then prompts you for the administrator password. If you do
not have the correct password, Recovery Console does not allow access to the
computer. If an incorrect password is entered three times, the Recovery
Console quits and restarts the computer. Once the password has been
validated, you have full access to the Recovery Console, but limited access
to the hard disk. You can only access the following folders on your
computer: %systemroot% and %windir%

Boot with a w98 bootdisk (www.bootdisk.com) and type FDISK /MBR
Power down
Boot to Safe Mode with a Command Prompt and type SFC /SCANNOW
Power down
Boot to Safe Mode and type CHKDSK /F/R
type "Y" for yes
Restart
(should take about 30 minutes)
If it works and you can boot normally,
Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Backup > make ERD(with System State)
(Ya gotta have one formatted diskette) It only write three file.)
In the volume, type ERD 121503
Save it
Back up your data, and send important information to external source (floppy, etc.)

Also get and stay safe. -->>AVP, firewall, Adaware, SpyBotS&D<<--
