Hi everyone
The problem I am having is whenever I try to start windows
XP it tells me a file in windows\system32\config is
missing or corrupt. Now I try to run the recovery console
from the cd and just before it gets to the screen that
allows me to install windows or use the repair option the
screen goes blank. The monitor is still on, the light is
solid, it is just all black??? The recovery console is
also installed on my hard drive and when I select to boot
up to it the screen just goes blank like above. I tried
running the recovery console on another computer with my
install disk and it works so I know the disk is OK. I ever
tried unplugging all my harddrives and booting from the
install disk, thinking maybe something from my hardive was
screwing things up, and the screen still went blank. I
tried running the cd off of two different cd drives on my
computer, thinking maybe my cd drive is screwed, and it
still goes blank????? Really conused here. Please help.
Thanks in advanced.

Sounds like you might have a hardware problem. Have you tried moving that
drive to another machine and running chkdsk on it?

In addition to Joseph's advise to check the hard drive on another machine, you may want to check for defective RAM. If you have multiple sticks, remove all but one and try to boot, repeating with different configurations of RAM in different slots.
