Hi Ann:

Recovery CDs are produced by the computer manufacturer, and that's where
you need to go for help with them.

Generally speaking, to boot your computer from a CD you need to go into
the BIOS and set the CD drive as the first boot device. If that does not
work, contact the manufacturer.

Thank you for your suggestions. i was hoping that someone would have a
suggestion for me other than contacting the computer manufacturer. i had used
the recovery cd a few months ago and didnt have to change anyting on my
computer. just put the cd and restarted the computer. when the computer
restarted the cd automatically loaded up and allowed me to restore to
manufaturer defualt before i even got the win xp logo.. i do remember once
when i had to do the recovery cd that i did have a problem with it started
and that i had to go somewheres but just not sure what i did

Computers have what's called a "boot order." The boot order lists the
possible devices it can boot from (usually hard drive, CD, floppy drive) in
the order that it tries them to boot from.

The boot order can be changed, and is set in the BIOS. If your computer
boots from the hard drive and ignores the CD, obviously the hard drive
appears earllier in the boot order than the CD does (that's not at all
unusual, by the way).

So to boot from the CD, the first thing you need to do is go into the BIOS
setup program and change the boot order to put the CD first.

Do you know how to get into the BIOS setup program? How to get into your
BIOS depends, not on Windows, but on what motherboard/BIOS you have. As a
matter of fact, you have to access the BIOS before Windows even starts to
boot. One common way is to press the Del key when you first power on, but
that's not necessarily right for your computer. Watch the screen carefully
when you first boot; there's often a message there telling you what to do.
If not, check your system documentation or check with your vendor.

Also look here: http://michaelstevenstech.com/bios_manufacturer.htm Or just
try the Del key. There's a good chance that's correct for you.
