recovering deleted files / folders

I was trying to clear some space and deleted a bunch of files in my temp
folder only to realize this was a folder that had stuff that I need. Of
course I bypassed the recycle bin by holding down shift when I hit delete. Is
there any way to get these files back?

Download and run Restoration or another Undelete program. The more you
use the hd with the deleted files, the more data you overwrite, so you
should download the program to a flash drive, or floppy.

Usually if you have already closed any application you were working on the
temp File is no longer relevant, and the files also elsewhere on your drive.

I think he means "his" temp folder, i.e. a working folder he puts files in
till he sorts them, rather than the widows temp folder.

Hello - - I went through this thread and tried Restoration, the free utility
- - - - but, the all the folders were unfilled, and the files were all
separated -
- The time it would take to recover each individual file, then validate,
then relocate to original folders was too daunting and rediculous.
- - It also does not adise you to use a second unrelated data drive to
temporarily store your recovered data, so that you do not corrupt all those
"undeleted" files still sitting on the original drive.
But, if recovery is being done for only a very few files (usually not) and
the computer jock is really nimble of mind, then this is a good FREE program.
But - - if not -- - use File Scavanger. See below in this thread. - - File
Scavanger does a good job of identifying lost files, for free, and lists all
files in their original folder structures. - - but, you cannot recover any
files larger than 64 bytes in the "Demo". This program is excellent - - as
good as any and recovered over 200 mb of files within their folders for me.
YOU MUST USE an unrelated data drive, which is not a problem for most
computer jocks who have a 2nd HD or External HD.

Yes - - as always, the basic programming for utilities, or even office
software is free, but, not really useful for those with high performance in
mind --
Restoration is fine with small numbers of files (say 1 - 20), when you can
remember the file folder structures. File Scavenger was great at finding
files even after I had quick formatted a partition or drive - - though I did
not need to recover these files, I though that could be useful in the future.
File Fcavenger worked on any of my internal HD and my external (1394
connection). I am guessing that if you have an HD or ext HD that needs
recovery, and if you are a nimbletechy, then you might be able to install the
HD with the files to be recovered on the computer that File Scavenger has
been downloaded to, and work from there -- again, you need another HD or
partition space of equivelent size to stage your recovered files to. Then,
copy back to their original location.
I have found that even when your "empty the recyle bin" you are not
eliminating the created files -- only, attaching code to allow the HD
sometime in the future to use that space on which the file is locate -- at
which time, the file is then lost forever. I am also guessing that Real
formats, clean disk, defragmentation, and Norton's Partition Magic will
finally erase files during those operations.
