Don't know any free tools, if you want to spend some money;

Until you have a solution try not to use your computer so much especially in
terms of creating new files, expanding the size of existing files, and what
ever you do just don't defrag. Take a bite of some humble pie and say to
yourself, from now on I back up, and then I'll do another one.

Hi,

To try and retrieve your deleted files, you would want to use an undelete
utility. These are commonly available for free, and work on the premise that
the space the file formerly occupied has not been overwritten with new data
yet. Once that has occured, recovery requires more extensive (and expensive)
work with dedicated forensic tools by someone who knows what they are doing.

This one here works quite well for basic file recovery:

Thank you Rick, I tried some other programs that had a "free trial" period
and located the files, but had to pay to save them. Tried the one you
suggested, but unfortunately can't find the main one I'm looking for.

They were video files I had of my two daughters. I used Ulead to edit the
files, and saved them with a different name, but deleted the avi files. I
didn't save them as video files straight away as it takes a while to save
each one. When I went back to look at them I needed to link to the original
files. DER!!!

I've definitely learnt my lesson. THank you for your reply, I'll keep the
link handy
just in case...

And Winux P - yes I'll make sure I save regularly. Thank you, too.
